Lyrics & Commentary: Welcome

OLD MAN RATTLER

Had some fun with this commentary on the process of "shedding old skin".

Lyrics & Commentary: Text

FAST BOAT TO PIRAEUS

In 1977, on a TWA flight to LA, I won the scratch-off Win-The-World contest.  The prize?  Round trip to anywhere TWA   flew.  Amba couldn’t go, so I booked myself to Egypt and Greece.  Hopped a hydrofoil and took the Fast Boat back to Piraeus.

Lyrics & Commentary: Text

SEVEN DAYS

Embroiled in the emotion of worry that my daughter might leave home, I put all that into this song, and felt better right away!

Lyrics & Commentary: Text

MARDI GRAS

Descending  from our hotel into the French Quarter in New Orleans during Mardi Gras weekend, the scene was unreal, so I make a full report in this song from the Big Easy.

Lyrics & Commentary: Text

MOMMA

Here I get to express and tell her some things I never did before she passed in 1980.

Lyrics & Commentary: Text

ARROW STRONG, LOTUS WISE

My daughter wanted a tattoo, but we were holding firm.  Then she emerged from her room and spoke so powerfully about her purpose that we came to fully support her with it.  “Arrow" is direction in Life, “Lotus” is the ability to create beauty from the mud below.

Lyrics & Commentary: Text

BROTHERS

Honoring my three younger brothers, who are a much bigger part of my life than I generally admit.

Lyrics & Commentary: Text

OLD DARK CHURCH

In Carefree, Arizona the back of the stage at Harold's Corral looked to me like a spooky old church.

Lyrics & Commentary: Text

WHERE THE WEST HAS GONE

©Tony Gilkyson 2021  Tony was a good friend in mid-70’s Sante Fe.   This song of his has always been a favorite of mine, but it was never recorded. I’m grateful to have the chance to “premier” it.

Lyrics & Commentary: Text

IT MIGHT NOT FEEL LIKE CHRISTMAS

Sometimes I can’t quite create that old Christmas spirit from back in the day.  So one year long ago, I indulged myself and wrote about it.

Lyrics & Commentary: Text

SHADOWLINE

I really wanted to have some Bluegrass on the record.

Lyrics & Commentary: Text

ENDLESS SPACE AND TIME

Woke up from some kind of dream, and this refrain was echoing in my mind.
